About Dev PDF

Simple, fast and genuinely private PDF tools — made so you never have to upload a sensitive document to a stranger’s server.

Why Dev PDF exists

Most online PDF websites ask you to upload your file to their servers. For a college form, an ID, a contract or an invoice, that is a lot to trust. Dev PDF takes a different approach: every tool runs inside your own browser, on your own device. The file is opened, changed and saved locally — it is never sent to us or anyone else.

What you can do

Dev PDF has 36 tools in 7 categories: merge, split, compress, rotate and reorder pages; convert Word, images and HTML to PDF and PDFs to images, Word and text; add page numbers, watermarks and margins; sign a PDF, draw or type on it, fill in PDF forms, black out private details (redact) and flatten forms; insert blank pages; crop, combine, enhance and clean documents; inspect a PDF; crop shipping labels; convert and shrink images (JPG, PNG, WebP); and listen to a PDF read aloud.

How it works

Dev PDF is a static website: plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript with no server-side code. When you choose a file, your browser reads it into memory, the tool processes it using open-source JavaScript libraries, and the result is handed back to you as a download. Close the tab and everything is gone.

Honest limitations

  • Word ↔ PDF conversions are practical approximations. Text, headings, lists, tables and basic styling are converted; pixel-perfect layout, complex columns, text boxes and embedded fonts are not reproduced.
  • No OCR. Scanned PDFs are pictures of text, so text-based tools (PDF to Word, PDF to Text, Listen) cannot read them.
  • Password-protected PDFs that need a password to open cannot be processed.
  • Very large files depend on your device’s memory. Dev PDF accepts files up to 300 MB, but phones may struggle well before that.
