About Redact PDF: free, private and in your browser
Redact PDF hides sensitive information such as names, account numbers, addresses and signatures by drawing black boxes over them. Unlike simply covering text with a shape, the pages you redact are rebuilt as pictures with the boxes burned in, and the saved file is created from new pages, so the hidden text is not kept underneath. It runs entirely in your browser, so the document is never uploaded, which matters most for exactly this kind of private file. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark. Be aware of the trade-offs: redacted pages become images and are no longer searchable, and links, bookmarks and form fields on those pages are not carried over. Pages you do not redact keep their text. Always open the result and check it before sharing, and keep your original safe. For simple marks that are not meant to be secure, such as highlighting, use Draw & Annotate. Higher resolutions give sharper redacted pages but larger files.
